Financing a wedding can be expensive and before you start planning you will need to have a budget in mind.
Although traditionally most of the cost was bourne by the bride's family, nowadays some couples pay for the wedding themselves with both sets of parents contributing. Be realistic about what funds you will have available and whether the bride and groom will be meeting the costs themselves or having help from parents. To avoid any misunderstands in the future, be perfectly clear about how much each party will be contributing and which aspects they will be responsible for.
Size does matter as the number of guests and style of your reception will of course have a big impact on your budget as about 50% of a budget is usually spent on the wedding reception food and drink.
Priorotise your budget
Prepare a provisional budget by gathering inspiration and be prepared to amend it as other possibilities arise. If budget is an issue, follow you wedding dream as far as possible but be prepared to trim on some aspects to allow for something that really matters to you.
Narrow down your list of wedding suppliers and obtain fixed quotations not estimates and keep a careful record. If some aspects are being provided by friends or family, remember that a thank you gift would be appropriate and built it into the budget.
We have prepared an exhaustive list of all the vital and not so essential componets to act as a checklist when preparing you budget which can be used as a wedding budget checklist to allocate your expenditure and keep a careful track of how the budget is being spent and payments made.
